World Golf Championships, Cricket World Cup, Barbados, Island Parties, Events and Festivals - Barbados Jazz Festival

A jazz café sceneThis annual event brings together top billed performers from the U.S.A., Canada, UK, Latin America and the Caribbean with the best of Barbadian artists in an entertainment package that attracts much international attention. Top performers have included Anita Baker, Poncho Sanchez, Fourplay, Hiroshima, Errol Bradshaw, Herbie Hancock, Dionne Warwick, Freddy Cole, Jesse Cook, David Sanborn, Rachelle Ferrell and the Cuban band Orquesta Enrique Jorrin. R and B performer Alicia Keys is scheduled to play in 2005, the tenth anniversary of the event.

Held the second week of January, the seven-day event is staged at various venues including the modern Sir Garfield Sobers Sports complex, the historic Sunbury Plantation House and the open-air venue of Farley Hill National Park. The two-day outdoor concert at Farley Hill Park is an especially popular element of the festival as fans bring coolers of drinks, food and blankets to stretch out on the shaded slope as they watch the show.

The Sherbourne Conference Centre is another open-air venue and stages performances on the lawn. The place is timelessly romantic and has featured African chanting and Yoruba music in past years.

The Barbados Jazz Festival has reached music lovers island-wide. The indoor Sir Garfield Sobers Sports complex holds 3,000 people. The Cane Pit Amphitheatre at the Foursquare Rum Distillery in Heritage Park is also a popular draw with its wonderfully clear view of the Caribbean's bright night time sky.

Widely acclaimed as the premier jazz festival of the Caribbean, you won't want to miss "paint it jazz"!
