It’s no trouble finding ways to get around on an island with a small area of 166 square miles. Transportation options from car rentals to public buses abound for every budget and fancy.Public busses in Barbados.

Public Transportation
Barbados has a public transportation system, serving most of the island’s population. Transit services are provided by the government-run Transport Board and private owners who operate route taxis (ZR’s) and minibuses. Fare to any part of the island is $1.50 (Barbados dollars) per ride.

Tour Operators
Many tour companies on the island offer all-day transportation services, which take visitors to Barbados’ main attractions. Air-conditioned coaches and a personal tour guide create a comfortable setting for an easy-going exploring experience.

Taxicab Services
Taxicabs offer several options for seeing the island—luxury cars, small vans, or spacious coaches. In addition, taxis provide general transportation to and from various points around Barbados.

Rentals
Renting a car is arguably one of the best ways to explore the beauty of Barbados. Car agencies around the island have a wide selection of vehicles and many offer free pick-up from and drop off at the island’s ports and hotels. In order to hire and drive a vehicle, visitors must present a valid driver’s licence from their country of residence. In most cases, the rental agent arranges for the provision of a local driver’s permit at a cost of 10 Barbados dollars (approx. $5 USD).
